An episodic psychological horror experience based on fragmented memories and twisted perception.

You’re looking at the first chapter of the Living Nightmares series — standalone stories that follow people grappling with distorted realities, fractured identities, and unsettling truths they were never meant to uncover.

False Familiar
After a strange event leaves you disoriented, you begin to question the memories you thought were real. A familiar face keeps reappearing... but something about them is deeply wrong. You're not sure if you’re being haunted… or if your mind is turning against you.

A first-person psychological horror game focused on atmosphere and story-driven progression. Explore your environment, uncover clues, and piece together the reality, if it exists.

Key Features

  • A disturbing narrative driven by exploration and subtle choices.
  • Use a phone to receive texts and check messages, uncovering clues through unsettling conversations.
  • Authentic analog horror presentation.
  • Visions, messages, and hallucinations that blur the line between truth and delusion.
  • Minimal HUD, fully immersive experience.
  • Built for short, intense play sessions

Great game for a perspective on mental illness. You’re doing great work, from a fellow Psch grad with a masters in psychology

Sometimes The Horror Is Within Your Own Mind!

A fun little horror game! :)

I stayed in the closet the whole time.

 I was not getting out😅

Great game, reminded me a bit of some of the horror stories I narrated. Would you happen to be want any voice actors for your next project? I'd love to work for you.

Thanks a lot, glad you liked it! I am not planning to add voice lines to the second episode, but I’ll definitely keep it in mind for future episodes! :)

Thank you very much! Do you have any socials or an email I can reach you at and give you my samples for reference?

The ending was really trippy, it had me stressed when things turned. I enjoyed playing :)

Thank you! :) Glad you enjoyed it.

What a solid experience this was! Was really terrifying the first time around but sadly this video is a double take due to game capture issues, buut this was still a amazing experience either way! Made a video on it.

Pretty interesting so far, I think the idea of questioning what's real and what isn't can really add a lot of neat elements to this game. Going to keep and eye on it and see where it goes, thanks for the experience!

Thank you, that means a lot! :)

Hello,

I came across your game on itch.io and find it very exciting, both visually and atmospherically.

I'm currently getting started as a streamer on Twitch and plan to play your game live there. I might also upload a Let's Play on YouTube and share short clips from it (e.g. jumpscares or special moments) on TikTok and Instagram - if you agree, of course.

Can I use your game in this context?

And can you tell me whether the music and sound effects contained in the game are royalty-free or released for use in videos (also monetized)? That would be important for me to know, especially with regard to copyrights and possible strikes on YouTube or Twitch.

Unfortunately, I haven't found any other way to get in touch with you - hence this way.

Many thanks in advance & best regards

Hi,

I'm really glad to hear you found the game exciting!

Yes, you're welcome to use the game in all the contexts you mentioned.

As for the music, all tracks in the game are sourced from Pixabay and are tagged as commercially free, so there shouldn’t be any issues. There are two main pieces of music: one in the main menu and one at the ending. If needed, both can be muted without affecting gameplay too much.

Feel free to join our Discord if you have any further questions. Thank you again for reaching out, and I wish you all the best on your content creation journey! :)

Kind regards,
